Enchanting Oman: Insights from Tara Sillery

The Heart of Oman: Its People

One of the most compelling aspects of Oman is its people. “The love I have for Oman and its people is indescribable,” Tara shares. She emphasizes that from the moment she arrives, she feels an immediate sense of belonging. “When anyone asks me why I am always in Oman and love it so much, this is always my first response: ‘because the people are like no other.'” This genuine warmth and kindness from the Omani people create an inviting atmosphere that makes visitors feel at home.

Unspoiled Natural Beauty

Oman’s natural beauty is another reason it captures hearts. “Untouched” is how Tara describes the landscapes, highlighting the simplicity and tranquility that surrounds her. She appreciates how “nothing is an effort” in Oman, where nature flourishes and serenity prevails. Her plea to preserve this purity resonates strongly: “Don’t ever allow this wonderful country to become a commercial tourist destination—keep the pure beauty.” This commitment to maintaining the untouched charm of Oman is what distinguishes it from other GCC countries.

Celebrating Local Talent

“As an expat, it is my duty to showcase and bring attention to the talent of the nation,” she tells us.

Cultural interactions are equally enriching in Oman, particularly for Tara as she seeks to uplift local talent. As the owner of a PR and Media agency, she finds immense inspiration in the creativity she encounters. “Every time I visit and attend art and fashion exhibitions, I am blown away by the talent—especially the female talent,” she notes. Supporting women in the arts is a mission she passionately embraces. “As an expat, it is my duty to showcase and bring attention to the talent of the nation,” she asserts.

Changing Perspectives on Travel

In what ways has your perspective on travel changed after visiting Oman? Tara reflects, “My initial visit years ago was for leisure to the beautiful Zighy Bay; however, over the past few years, the main reasons for my trips are for work. But now when I come, work doesn’t feel like work, as Oman makes me so zen and at home. Team Kempinski for sure is a huge part of this, as whenever I stay there, I feel I could stay forever (and always end up extending my trip!). Traveling to this beautiful country is never a chore, and whether it be for work or just to zen and relax, Oman is always top of my list as it is where some of my nearest and dearest live.”

Hidden Gems and Personal Favorites

“This is where I become selfish—I don’t want to share so many hidden gems for fear it will become a tourist trap!” Joking aside, Tara describes Nizwa as breathtaking. “Where else can you visit and interact with locals as you do here? The market is stunning, and one can immerse themselves here for hours (I always do!). One place where I was fully at peace is the magical Anantara in Jebel Al Akhdar—the views are outstanding. I was above the clouds (literally!) and mentally. I love what they are also doing with this area, the beautiful cafes popping up in the mountains—a must-visit for any tourist.”

As someone who is a self-proclaimed water baby and obsessed with dolphins, Tara notes, “Oman offers experiences that will be forever etched in one’s heart. Whale shark watching too is something to add to your bucket list. There are just way too many experiences to mention, some I shall share, but some I keep to myself so that I have my own magical Oman!”

Scent of Oman

“Ensure you also get to smell the scent of the country—Amouage. This brand is something Oman should be so very proud of. And the local oils, soaps, food—the list is just endless.”

Conclusion

Oman, with its remarkable people, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant local talent, offers a unique experience that leaves a lasting impression. Tara Sillery’s reflections remind us of the importance of preserving this enchanting destination while celebrating its cultural richness. As travelers seek authentic experiences, Oman stands as a testament to the beauty of connection—both with nature and its welcoming inhabitants. Embracing its unspoiled charm will ensure that future generations can enjoy the same magic that captivates Tara and countless others.
