To encourage the adoption and localization of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology organizes a seminar on the new generation of artificial intelligence.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology organized on Monday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (Airport Heights) a seminar on the new generation of artificial intelligence, under the auspices of His Excellency Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al Barwani, CEO of the National Center for Statistics and Information, with the participation of a number of representatives of the concerned government agencies.
Seminar objectives The Seminar aims to educate and increase society’s awareness of the most important modern technologies, highlight the most important technologies that use generative artificial intelligence and opportunities for their use, review the most important legislation regulating the use of modern technologies, and present investment opportunities through platforms that are based on new artificial intelligence, in addition to coming up with recommendations and a message clear to the community about all aspects of the new AI.
The importance of the seminar Within the program of the seminar, Hassan bin Fida Hussain Al Lawati, Head of the National Program for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies, delivered a speech in which he said: This seminar comes at a time when the world is accelerating to benefit from technologies related to the new generation of artificial intelligence. Given the ability of these technologies to perform tasks that were until recently exclusively for humans, these technologies can create new and unique contents that can be used in various fields, and can also be used to create new data or modify existing data in order to produce new results. Al Lawati pointed out that the national program for the digital economy will contribute to doubling the digital economy in GDP, to jump from 2% in 2021 to 10% in 2040. The program also aims for the Sultanate to occupy advanced ranks globally in digital economy indicators monitored by the Oman Vision. 2040, such as: the e-government development index, the network readiness index, and the readiness index for the future of production. The program also contains a set of medium-term executive programs such as the government digital transformation program, the infrastructure program, the digital industry program, the e-commerce program, the artificial intelligence program, advanced technologies, and the space program.

Al Lawati added in his speech that the Ministry initiated the preparation of the executive program for artificial intelligence and advanced technologies as one of the executive programs for the national program for the digital economy, which is the strategic direction for artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in the Sultanate to encourage the adoption and localization of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies after reviewing the strategies of several countries in this field and following up on international reports and indicators.
From various institutions, and coordinating several meetings and workshops with partners from the public and private sectors, academics and entrepreneurs specialized in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, pointing out that the executive program for artificial intelligence and advanced technologies targets the economic diversification sectors that were identified within the tenth five-year development plan and Oman Vision 2040 With accelerating the adoption of these technologies in the basic and development sectors.
Discussion sessions The seminar included three discussion sessions; The first session dealt with “current trends and developments in artificial intelligence technology platforms” and discussed three working papers, which are the GPT platform and the platforms emanating from it, copyright and the uses of artificial intelligence, and the capabilities of emerging companies in creating technical solutions using the new generation of artificial intelligence. The second session was entitled ” Activating artificial intelligence platforms in the education sector” touched on the Cognii platform and its uses, automating educational processes based on artificial intelligence technologies, scientific research and areas of creating solutions to challenges using modern technologies, while the third session was titled “The future of artificial intelligence technology platforms and their impact on society” and reviewed the session AI Clara and similar technology platforms, the challenges of using AI platforms and their impact on the labor market, and AutoML platforms for automatic machine learning.
It is worth noting that the new generation of artificial intelligence uses machine learning algorithms that create new data from an existing data set, and these algorithms use statistical techniques to learn patterns in the data and then use those patterns to create new data similar to the original, and the new generation of artificial intelligence has become very common. Increasingly in many areas, such as image creation, natural language processing, music composing and game development, many platforms that use the new generation of artificial intelligence have recently appeared such as ChatGPT, Dall-E-2 and other platforms that use generative algorithms.
