Consumption in Ramadhan between need and extravagance

Consumption is an individual and societal necessity that cannot be abandoned. It is necessary to satisfy the human instinct in terms of food, adornment, clothing and transportation and Islam, like all other divine laws, does not have a rejectionist position, as it could neither be rationally nor legitimately rejected, however Islam keeps the position of permissibility according to two approaches. The first is positive and it is moderation, and this is clear in Almighty’s saying: And do not keep your hand shackled to your neck (out of miserliness), nor stretch it out to an entire stretching (extravagantly), lest you sit down reproached (incurring blame) and exhausted (on becoming penniless)[29 Al-Israa ]; the second is negative and it is the prohibition of extravagance which is clear in Almighty’s saying: Children of Adam, take your adornment at every place of prayer. Eat and drink, and do not waste. He does not love the wasteful [31 Al-a’araaf].
