The suspension bridge, also known as Al Ayjah bridge, located in Sur, Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate, Oman, spans an estuary and links two suburbs. It was created with pedestrians and light vehicles in mind. Steel cross girders at 3 m spacing support a 30 cm thick concrete slab made of prefabricated elements. Stainless steel cables suspended from two 115 mm diameter locked coil ropes support these girders. Also, three stay cables on each side stiffen the bridge to reduce wind oscillations. "The accurate allocation of the self-weight loads on the hanger and stay cables was the most exciting challenge during the erection of the superstructure."
