A historical landmark in Dhofar used to be the government headquarters
Rakhyut Fort in Dhofar Governorate is one of the historical and tourist famous site in the state. It was previously the government headquarters, where they used to manage the state affairs. The fort, which is located in the center of the state. The fort consists of a ground floor containing two councils, four medium-sized rooms, a store, public facilities and a room at the top for the purpose of surveillance and guarding. Muhammad al-Saadouni Ak'ak, a citizen, mentioned that Rakhyut Fort dates back to the reign of Sultan Taymur bin Faisal Al Said, and has gone through several stages of expansions and restoration over successive eras, as it was rebuilt during the reign of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said. He added that the construction and restoration stages ended in 2013 and is currently supervised by the Office of the Minister of State and the Governorate of Dhofar.
