Rumaitha The Solo Traveler

An award-winning radio presenter and sportswoman, Rumaitha is credited with being the first female football analyst in the Arab world; a feat that she only could achieve due to her passion for the sport and being part of Oman’s women football team. During her decade-long career in radio, she has hosted various sports and social shows including The Football Lounge on Radio Sultanate of Oman and Social Oman and The Lunch Break on Merge 104.8 to name a few. Rumaitha remains to this day the first and only Omani woman to have made it in the private English radio scene.

In her efforts to encourage more women into sports, Rumaitha became the youngest Omani woman to step foot on the South Pole and has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and Damavand. She continues to be a trailblazer setting an example for Arab women and their capability of travelling solo; she has swum in the five oceans and seven seas of the world while visiting 64 countries all on her own.

Professionally, Rumaitha is a Royal Netherlands Society of Arts & Sciences fellow and worked at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology; formally receiving her education at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Coming back to Oman, she has primarily worked in the private sector as an environmental consultant and fisheries adviser. She is also a key participant of the National Program for Enhancing Economic Diversification (Tanfeedh) serving as vice chair of the food manufacturing sectorial working group and a member of the aquaculture committee.

Rumaitha also serves as an Executive Board Member of the Environment Society of Oman and is the youngest member to serve on the board to date. She is part of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Community, a Challenge 22 for the World Cup 2022 ambassador and named by the European Commission and One Young World as a peace ambassador. This representation and accolades have allowed Rumaitha to speak of Oman and its youth potential in various worldly summits. Rumaitha has an MSc. in Environmental Sciences from Utrecht University and MSc. in Aquaculture Management from Sultan Qaboos University.
